With that being said, after the last episode, there will be a 10-year jump into the timeline in the upcoming episode where we’ll see Rhaenyra ascending to the Iron Throne.

During the upcoming timeline, it is Olivia Cooke and Emma D’Arcy are going to play Alicent and Rhaenyra. In fact, twins Laenor Valaryon and Laena are also going to replace the older cast.

During a recent interview with E! News, actor Matt Smith who portrays Daemon Targaryen in House of the Dragon, said that this re-casting thing was perhaps a brilliant idea.

It was brilliant, actually because I think they’ve done brilliant work. It gave you a completely different context for the age thing to play off.”

In fact, actor Paddy Considine who portrays King Viserys Targaryen said that re-casting was indeed a good idea. He said that

Yeah, I loved it. I loved it because they were the same character, but they [had] different energy.”

With all being said, Carey and Alcock’s performances in the first five episodes have been so well-received by fans that they’re campaigning for the two actresses to return as Rhaenyra and Alicent in future seasons.

House of the Dragon’s new episodes premieres every Sunday at 9 pm ET on HBO and HBO Max.
