Season 7 of Game of Thrones saw Dickon Tarly recast, as Tom Hopper took over the role played by Freddie Stroma just in time to be burnt to a crisp by Daenerys Targaryen. Hopper’s brief run on the show hasn’t stopped the actor from speculating on how Game of Thrones might end however. Speaking to Be, the veteran British actor believes his on screen brother Samwell Tarly (John Bradley) might be central to the show’s conclusion.
I like the Sam fan theory. It’s that Samwell Tarly is narrating the whole thing, like it’s his story.
Simply put, the theory states that Sam is recounting the events of the series in some sort of biographical form, much like Bilbo Baggins’ There and Back Again accounting of the events of The Hobbit. That would certainly end up being quite the twist (George R.R. Martin is an avowed Tolkien fan), but it wasn’t the only twist Hopper sees coming down the line.
Hopper also believes we might end up with a violent confrontation between a pair of Lannister siblings, though not the two you might expect. “I think Jamie is probably going to end up killing Cersei.”
Again, not an original theory, but one that that gained a lot of steam after Jaime deserted Cersei in the season 7 finale. And speaking of Jaime, during his time on set, Hopper got to experience Game of Thrones mania with the man behind one half of the Lannister twins, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau.
During filming I was hanging out with Nikolaj a lot and we went to the gym togther and stuff. It was quite tricky, I realized they can’t really go anywhere without creating this beetle fever. It was definitely eye-opening.
We’re not sure it was quite to the level of Beatlemania, but it doesn’t appear to be far off. We’ll have to wait see however, if any of Hopper’s other comments end up coming true. Thanks Rickon, err Dickon.
