Game of Thrones airs its final episode this upcoming Sunday, but that isn’t quite the end of the fun. A week after that, at 9:00 p.m. EST on Sunday May 26, where there would normally be a new episode of GoT, HBO will air The Last Watch, a documentary exploring what went into the making of the eighth and final season:

Season 8 is a strange beast. it’s causing more division than any season previous, but from a production standpoint it was a bigger undertaking than anything this team had attempted before, and they’d attempted some major stuff. I’m looking forward to seeing how it all came together.

At the start of the trailer we get a look at the much talked-about season 8 table read, where we’ve heard that more than one cast member broke down in tears. Kit Harington, especially, seems to be going through it. Then there’re the weeks of night shoots the cast and crew endured to film the Battle of Winterfell, and then there’s the making of the incredibly detailed King’s Landing set just so the team could blow it up in “The Bells.”

That set, by the way, is such an accomplishment that HBO plans to leave it standing as a tourist attraction, and as something to rent out to other productions. They built something magnificent here. I’m all for memorializing it.
