HBO’s The Last of Us is its new record-breaking steamroller; surpassing television ratings and viewership records with every new episode. The season 1 finale approaching very soon, while the fans are still reeling with the after-effects of the traumatic events Ellie (Bella Ramsey) just went through. The video game’s original Joel actor, Troy Baker, also played a role in the penultimate episode, and he thinks that the game doesn’t really have villains.

How Troy Baker prepared for the role of James in episode 8?

In a recent interview with The Verge, Baker explained how he got into the mindset of playing James in episode 8. He explained, “The beauty that I got with James is there’s more to explore because, in the game, it’s not a James-forward story. In this version, we got to kind of explore who he is, and that’s still the job that’s put to the actor — to come up with your own backstory.”

How the villains in The Last of Us are different than other franchises?

He continued, “For me, it was who is this person, and how is he not a villain? That’s the first challenge that I have because I don’t think that anybody is a villain. We’re all the heroes of our own story. So how is James a hero? To me, he’s doing exactly what Joel does, which is to ask “how can I best look after those that I care about?” And he’s a pragmatist; he’s not a violent person.”

When does The Last of Us Season 1 finale air?
