Season Seven of Game of Thrones concluded with Daenerys Targaryen unknowingly having sex with her nephew Jon Snow. Very weird! But, to complicate matters further, their advisor Tyrion Lannister was standing outside the door listening and looking very concerned indeed. Many theories have been thrown around about what exactly Tyrion was thinking in that moment. Had he made a deal with Cersei to betray them? Was he concerned that a child of theirs would have a claim to the throne? Maybe Tyrion had fallen in love with Daenerys and the dude was feeling a little heartbroken or jealous or both?

Earlier this year, Tyrion actor Peter Dinklage shed a little bit of light on what was going on, telling Entertainment Weekly:
It’s complicated. A lot of the time with Tyrion, it’s professional and personal. Obviously, he has feelings for Daenerys. He loves her — or thinks he does. She’s awe-inspiring. He’s questioning that because he doesn’t have a good track record for falling in love. There’s jealousy wrapped up in there. And he loves Jon Snow, too. They’re the two people he has the most in common with, in a way — they’re both outsiders in their own families who have refused to follow the path their family has taken, and hopefully for the better. He’s wondering how smart of a move [Jon and Dany getting romantically involved is], because passion and politics don’t mix well. He knows the two of them getting together could be very dangerous.
But, his description is a little bit vague, explaining his feelings for Daenerys as something of a gallant love rather than romantic.
Now, Vanity Fair has taken a close look at some Game of Thrones Season Seven scripts that are currently on display at the The Writers Guild of America West library in Los Angeles, which reveals even more about this situation.
As a script from Season Six describes Tyrion as Daenerys prepares to leave Meereen:
“He studies her face. [. . .] Dany is staring into the distance so Tyrion is able to watch her from up close. Goddamn but she is beautiful. [. . .] He watches her for a beat too long and turns away. Lost in her own thoughts, she doesn’t notice that he’s flustered.”
That certainly sounds like our dude has the hots for the Dragon Queen.
Then, in Season Seven when Jaime stupidly charges Daenerys and her dragon, Tyrion is watching the scene and thinking:

“The brother he loves races towards his probably death at the hands of the queen Tyrion also loves.”
The guy is conflicted. And if he is indeed in love with Daenerys, then what we’re seeing on his face at the end of Season Seven isn’t simply his political concerns. Tyrion is jealous, too. Which could make for some very emotional decision-making on his part. Is it possible, as many fans have speculated, that this will be the reason he betrays his queen?
We’ll see when Game of Thrones returns sometime in April.
