When Game of Thrones first hit our screens, it was like a dragon-sized meteor crashing into pop culture. But as the seasons rolled on, that meteor turned into a slow-motion train wreck that left fans questioning their life choices. Enter The Wheel of Time, the show that, according to its own showrunner, is the reverse of Game of Thrones—because it actually gets better as it goes.
Quick read:
- The Wheel of Time improves over time, unlike Game of Thrones, according to showrunner Rafe Judkins.
- Season 3 sets up epic stories from Book Six, promising thrilling new developments.
- Judkins says the show rewards patience, making each season stronger than the last.
A Show That Levels Up Instead of Falling Apart
Unlike certain fantasy epics that peaked early and then nosedived into chaos (cough Season 8 cough), The Wheel of Time is playing the long game. Judkins believes that great TV shows should improve over time, rather than fizzle out like a forgotten prophecy.
In an interview with EW, Rafe Judkins, the mastermind behind The Wheel of Time, put it bluntly: “One of the great things about Wheel of Time the book series is that it is sort of a reverse Game of Thrones. It gets better as it goes on.”

“And so that’s what television is always about, is getting better as you go. And I think modern television sort of runs the risk of shows coming in with a big poppy movie-ish idea at the beginning and then petering out a little bit as they go through the seasons. But the great shows of television past really hit their stride in season 3 and 4, and I think that’s what this show in this series has the potential to do and just keep getting better from here. So we’re all very eager to continue this story and finish it.”
Season 3 and Beyond: The Real Magic Begins
Judkins also teased that the show is now entering the most exciting part of the books: “We’ve put a lot of pieces in place at the end of season 3 to tell some of the most iconic stories from book six, which is a really important book in the series.”
Translation? Buckle up, because things are about to get legendary. If this trend continues, The Wheel of Time might just become the fantasy show that actually sticks the landing.
