Game of Thrones is a very popular show, so it’s no surprise that journalists sometimes reach for the show’s many catch phrases when penning pithy headlines. “Winter is Coming,” possibly the show’s three most well-known words, shows up a particular lot. “Winter is coming… how we prepare the railway for cold weather,” reads a press release from Network Rail. “Winter Is Coming for China’s Property Sector,” opines Caixin Global. And so on.

Bloomberg, which isn’t above using the Stark words in articles about failing bank stocks, has gone to the trouble of tracking how often that particular phrase is used in news articles. It even put the data into graph form, which is the best kind of form:

It looks like uses of “Winter is Coming peaked in the late summer of 2017, which is around the time the last new Game of Thrones episode aired. That makes enough sense. But there’s been a new spike just recently. Bloomberg attributes that for rising excitement for the show’s final season, which drops in April of next year, but also to financial publications describe trouble on the horizon for the stock market.

And also winter is literally coming in many parts of the world. It’s all a rich tapestry.

If you want even more fun with graphs, Bloomberg made one that tracks how often “Winter is Coming” is used in relation to different parts of the stock market news sphere, including reporting on the small cap building materials index and natural gas ETF inflows.

Geez, get a life, Bloomberg. You’re looking like us.
