Guys your looking at performance capture the wrong way – STOP – JUST STOP. the animation is different. thats it, performance capture is not make up. The make up is the rendering and lighting and thats the make up. The problem with performance capture is that after the performance is captured animators than tweak the performance, change the performance, change the timing of the acting, and in fact sometimes animate entire scenes with out the performance capture at all, I know the Animator who animated Gollum and Caesar and animated entire scenes with out Serkis performance. Sorry but its not about the render / make up, its about the performance captured is not used on its own. ITS changed. its tweaked. the acting is changed so the actor is not responsible for a total acting scene and sometimes not even involved in whole scenes. THATS why you cannot award an actor for a performance.

Performance Capture is the way of the future and needs to be its own category, it’s simple. To me, Performance Capture is just another makeup of the future, your still need to act and say your lines. Jon Schnepp my buddy, your awesome but you gotta get passed this stigma of a click of a button lol.

I look at it this way. When the audience watches and actor they're not commenting on his makeup however when they're watching motion capture like Gollum or Caesar they're talking about the motion capture and actor seamlessly blend together and how real it looks. So I think the motion capture team including the actor should get their own award 😺 Fear my cat

If performance capture doesn't warrant Oscar consideration then neither should performances in prosthetic make up and costumes which also take many artists to create…and sometimes somebody standing off screen controlling animations inside masks.

i didn´t mind the live action venom suit in spiderman 3, a little smal maby but… i don´t like cgi and i´m worried that all cgi we see today
will look s#¤% in 10 years or so. could do a mix so you only risk having half of it look bad later. i do understand that you sort of have to use
cgi for venom but cgi will never make me as amazed as sets, props, special effects makeup, models or live locations.
