Filming on the pilot episode of HBO’s Game of Thrones prequel series, which may or may not be called Blood Moon, is over. Presumably, showrunner Jane Goldman is spending her days in the editing room, putting together something to show HBO in the hopes that the network will pick her work up to series. But news about casting is still coming in. Case in point: Watchers on the Wall reports that Vikings star Tadhg Murphy (Arne) has an unspecified role in the show, which is set thousands of years before Game of Thrones proper.
The tip-off comes from Murphy’s CV at the Susannah Norris Agency, which states that he appeared in “the HBO pilot episode of the GAME OF THRONES Prequel, BLOODMOON.” Doesn’t get much more clear than that. An Irish actor, you might also recognize Murphy as the pirate Edward Low in Black Sails on Starz, or as a dying soldier in 2004’s Alexander. Guy’s been around.
We have zero information on who Murphy is playing, just that he’s in the pilot. We’re not even sure if he’d stick around for the main series — maybe his character dies in the first episode. That sounds like a pretty Game of Thrones way to go out.
But while we have very little to go on, let’s speculate wildly anyway. A while back, GoTlike Locations tweeted a bunch of photos of the cast and crew filming a scene in the pristine waters of Gaeta, Italy:
I know I’m reaching, but does anyone else think that the man standing and holding his beard on the left side of the photo looks like Tadhg Murphy?
Or maybe I’m crazy. Feel free to tell me in the comments.
