As part of yet another cross-brand promotion for Game Of Thrones, here’s the fantasy drama’s iconic opening sequence made entirely from Oreo cookies:

That’s just . . . awesome, honestly.

Winter may not be coming to this particular version of Westeros, but a great big glass of milk sure is.

The sequence features “an animated landscape built entirely out of 2,750 OREO cookies.”

Oreo teamed up with creative agency 360i and Elastic, the creators of the show’s opening sequence, to create the delicious-looking sequence.

In any case, like these cool Mountain Dew Game of Thrones cans, this is another marketing effort by a sugary food brand to hop on the Seven Kingdoms Hype Train.

The cookie brand has introduced limited editions Game of Thrones Oreos (there are no Freys baked into them, alas) which are surprisingly cool. The symbols of the three remaining Great Westerosi Houses—House Lannister, House Targaryen, and House Stark, as well as The Night King—are embossed on the cookies themselves, like so:

Naturally there are hashtags—#GameOfCookies #ForTheThrone—which you’re supposed to use while pledging your support to one of these four powers, though really Targaryen and Stark are on the same side, and I wouldn’t be at all surprised if Cersei becomes the Night King’s paramour.

In any case, this is pretty clever and not a terrible way to get people talking about Oreos, something that I imagine doesn’t happen all that often. Piggybacking off of popular shows like Game of Thrones, or movie franchises like Star Wars, can get a little exhausting for consumers, but when you put together something creative like this opening sequence, and a decent product like these cookies, it can also be fun.

Game of Thrones returns on April 14th. Check out the latest trailer here. And don’t miss my reviews! I’ll be reviewing all six final episodes on this blog.
