House of the Dragon season 2 has no dearth of excellent actors who are shining on screen. From Matt Smith and Emma D’Arcy to Olivia Cooke and Ewan Mitchell, the HBO show has lucked out on casting some of the best talents of today.
For another role in this season, House of the Dragon showrunners roped in Tony-winning stage legend Simon Russell Beale to portray the Lord of Harrenhal. Smith’s Daemon encounters Simon Strong, played by Simon Russell Beale, at Harrenhal, expecting a fight. However, the Lord bends the knee without a second thought as he does not support his brother Larys or the Green faction’s claim.

Matt Smith shares experience in shooting scenes with Simon Beale
In an interview with Variety, Matt Smith shared how great it was to share the screen with the legendary actor Simon Russell Beale. Harrenhal is one of the largest castles in Westeros and to command such an estate, the showrunners needed someone with authority and wit to deal with Daemon.
Smith revealed, “We used to just have a hoot! He’d say, ‘Oh, darling, I’m bored of this acting. Come in here for some light chitchat.’ Amazing brain!”
The two share great chemistry on screen and eventually the scenes turned out great. Beale’s wit and ability to infuse humor into s serious scene sets him apart from the other House of the Dragon cast.
Even though Smith misses sharing screen space with his on-screen wife Emma D’Arcy, he feels more in control at Harrenhal and is excited for fans to see how that chapter unfolds.
House of the Dragon season 2 has only 3 more episodes to go that will wrap up the narrative and cap the war, hopefully. Both sides have lost a great deal and are yet to go toe to toe on the battlefield to claim the ultimate prize.
