*Warning: Spoilers for Game of Thrones season eight episode three*

Melisandre made a dramatic return at the start of the Battle of Winterfell when she appeared on the battlefield and set fire to the weapons of the Dothraki.

She later set alight the trenches surrounding Winterfell in an attempt to help protect, and then her final act saw her give Arya Stark the ultimate pep talk before she went on to kill the Night King.

It’s what she said to Arya that has left many fans speculating as to what is next for the young assassin, as the foreshadowing from several seasons ago now becomes clear.

The two characters had met once before in the show, and Melisandre made some predictions that have started to come true.

So what did she say to Arya when she first met her and what does it mean for the final three episodes?

What did Melisandre say to Arya Stark?

Meilsandre first met Arya Stark in season three when she bought Gendry from the Brotherhood Without Banners.

It was this encounter that led to Arya including her in the list of people that she wanted to kill.

Arya calls Melisandre ‘evil’ but the red woman ignores her comment and instead looks deep into her eyes.

She says to Arya ‘I see a darkness in you. And in that darkness, eyes staring back at me. Brown eyes, blue eyes, green eyes. Eyes you’ll shut forever. We will meet again.’

The brown eyes are likely to relate to one of the many people Arya has killed in the lead up to season eight, with many suspecting it refers specifically to Walder Frey.

It’s now clear that the blue eyes refer to the Night King and his army which she now seems to have the shut the eyes of forever.

A common theory among fans is that the green eyes prophecy may refer to Cersei Lannister.

The Queen has been on Arya’s list since season two after she played a part in the execution of her father Ned Stark.

Since then the Stark assassin has seen many people on her list fall, and Cersei now seems to be the only person remaining, other than the Mountain and the Hound, who is now one of her closest allies.

There is the chance that the green eyes prophecy has already happened with one of the other characters that Arya has killed, like Littlefinger, who is said to have green eyes in the book.

In season seven Melisandre also predicted her own death when she told Varys: ‘Oh, I will return dear, dead Spider. One last time. I have to die in this strange country, just like you.’
