  1. Good video, and it got me thinking about 2 things.
    1. The saying, "The North remembers", do you think this is related to the weirwood tree absorbing and suggesting the dead into a collective memory hub, coupled with the all -seeing eyes? It may just be that, when magic gradually disappeared, northerners forgot the meaning behind the saying.

    2. When you spoke of magic and the Lannisters, and the lack thereof … in fairness, none of the great houses had magic until recently. It would be cool if summertime, aka you, did research into when magic began to reappear. Was it with the dire wolves reemergence – the Starks couldn't warg until the wolves arrived, Danerys and her awakening the dragons, or when Bran began his visions. Or was it the reappearance of the white walkers? Magic and its return has something major to do with this story… and possibly it's endgame.

    Thanks!

  2. I think the connection to the Grateful Dead goes deeper than just one song… He has defiantly been influenced by the scene and thinking surrounding that band. One thing is for certain, George is a great author…

  3. Perhaps it's the trees that are the song of Fire & Ice? Perhaps the singers sing and cause the other WW's to start to move and in turn battle the Wights? If nothing dies then the trees will die out so it's in their interest to battle for the living. (Like the Ent's did in LOTR's)

  4. Those other black doors that pair with the weirwood white at the House of Black and White and alesewhere are almost surely not 'ebony' like you say but made of the same unnamed black barked-trees that Dany sees outside the House of the Undying that are used to make Shade of the Evening. Since Shade of the Evening and Wierwood paste have similar if not identical properties. these trees likely have some sort of connection with each other. Arya recognized Weirwood white when she saw it, I presume the black door, she simply didn't recognize. And of course, as he is wont to do, GRRM downplayed the black trees at the House of the Undying but it seems to me they are just as significant in the world setting as weirwood.

  5. I can't speak much to fictional trees. But as an arborist, I can tell you that, like all plants, trees in the real world thirst for nitrogen, and all blood is rich in nitrogen.
In her classic science fiction novel, "The Word for World is Forest", Ursula K. LeGuine described an alien species that often transformed at death into trees. It's a good and startling read, I recommend it.:)
