Game of Thrones has come a long way since Ned Stark first left Winterfell back in season one.

Viewers have seen many of their favourite characters die, while others have changed their allegiances on multiple occasions.

Sansa and Arya Stark have developed into smart, powerful characters, while Jaime Lannister has changed many opinions of what sort of person he is.

Following a dramatic and intense seventh season, fans have been left waiting to find out the fate of the characters in Westeros, including who will sit on the Iron Throne and who can survive the attack of the White Walkers.

The most recent episode aired in August 2017, meaning fans have had plenty of time to speculate and come up with theories of what await in season eight.

As the finale of the fantasy series approaches, here is everything you need to know about how season 7 ended and where the characters are now.

What happened at the end of season 7?

Season 7 saw many of our favourite characters reunite including sister Arya and Sansa Stark, as well as Jaime and Tyrion Lannister.

It also saw some meet for the first time when Daenarys finally arrived in Westeros.

The final episode of season 7 saw the two Stark sisters unite at Winterfell, and by being one step ahead of Littlefinger they were able to outsmart him and the schemer ended the series with his throat slit.

Jaime Lannister also decided that he was going to fight alongside his enemies to fight against the White Walkers and their army.

Bran Stark also revealed to Sam that Jon Snow is the son of Lyanna Stark and Rhaegar Targaryan who married in secret.

This revelation means that Jon Snow is the rightful king and heir to the iron throne, but while this is happening we see Jon enter Danaerys’ room and the two of them have sex without knowing they are related.

The season ends with the Night King riding an undead Viserion who shoots out blue flames at the Wall, causing it to crumble and allowing the army of Wights to cross and start the great war.

Game Of Thrones series eight returns 14 April. And is available to watch on NOW TV.
