What We Do In The Shadows wrapped up its fourth season the other night, and it delivered. This has to be one of the funniest shows out there. Not enough people are watching it and it baffles me. And between Nadja’s (Natasia Demetriou) nightclub and Baby Colin Robinson (Mark Proksch) the fourth season may have been the funniest yet. The season also featured Nandor’s (Kavyan Novak) short-lived marriage and Laszlo’s brush with fatherhood. And we can’t forget Guillermo (Harvey Guillén) coming out as gay, even if his first boyfriend did leave him for an exact copy of himself. It was an eventful season, to say the least!
Showrunner Paul Simms and Baby Colin Robinson himself, Mark Proksch, spoke to SyFy Wire about the fourth season, and what fans can expect from the fifth. At the end of season 4, everyone is basically getting a clean slate, so there is certainly a lot to look forward to!
For any fans wondering whether Baby Colin Robinson would remain a child for eternity, Simms has some answers for us! “No, we knew somehow he would be back to normal Colin Robinson at the end. But even when we started shooting the season we didn’t know exactly how we were going to do that,” he said. “But I think the main thing is we thought of this season as like a microcosm of childhood so he starts as a baby and grows into a teenager and then is a person who doesn’t even remember all the help that he was given growing up.”
I think the most intriguing aspect of the Baby Colin Robinson storyline was how they managed to make him look like a kid. According to Simms, Proksch was given instructions on where to look and how the light was supposed to fall, but past that, he was free to do whatever he wanted. A lot of what he did was perform musical theater, which Proksch was absolutely on board for. “I’ve been wanting to do Colin gets into theater,” he said. “There are certain topics I think an Energy Vampire thrives in and musical theater was definitely one of them. Getting to sing and dance has been something I’ve wanted to do since Season 1.”
Nadja will try and make a comeback in What We Do In The Shadows season 5
The adult Colin Robinson made his epic return in the finale. Nadja’s nightclub has also seemingly met its end, but according to Simms, “There’s another phase coming up.” She will be trying to get back on track in season 5 after losing control of the club.
And then there’s the Guillermo cliffhanger. In the finale, he pays a vampire to turn him. According to Simms, this season was all about Guillermo taking control of his life. “He’s always such a cautious character it felt interesting to end with him making a very rash decision.”
I cannot wait to see what happens with him in Season 5! The poor guy has been trying to get turned into a vampire throughout the series. It’s about time he got what he wanted!
