Who really is Melisandre? Is she the two dimensional religious zealot she appears to be, or is there something more to her? And is she even really human at all?

What do you make of Melisandre? And why do you think George R R Martin thinks she is so misunderstood?
Good stuff, dude👍🏽😉
Very interesting spin on Melisandre! She does believe she's doing good! Thanks! Have a very safe and Happy New Year!
Great analysis as usual Robert! You bring up thoughts and ideas I had not considered. I agree that Melisandre is more than two dimensional. I was touched by her doubt and I think she will be an essential cog in the wheel that turns the Game of Thrones and brings the conclusion.
Melisandre is the most misunderstood character because she misundertands herself all of the time, for all of the human years she is alive. I think R'hllor keeps her alive for the part she played and will play. But she is never the great priestess who clearly sees the things to come. I like her because in most, if not all, her predictions she was wrong, but she still shapes major plot points.
In a nutshell: She is most misunderstood because she misundestands herself. Melisandre is merely a rather "simple" (but important) tool of R'hllor while she sees herself as the great oracle.
All that said, Melisandre is easily my favorite figure besides Thoros.
The night is dark and full of terrors!
Thank you for this and your other videos as we await the next book to see what really happened 🙂
Good video, a well-rounded overview of a complicated character!
I think she is also Shiera Seastar. Excellent video!
Well done, Robert! Melisandre is a most misterious character. It seems to me she is one of a kind. I wonder if we can "understand" her now that so much is to be revealed!
Your ability to break topics down and articulate in the manner you do is a true gift. I couldn't add a single thing to what you've contributed in the video. Kudos, and have a terrific New Year!
Woot, I dare you to look up Mysaria. As well as Clerence Crabb, Blood and cheese, Demon Targaryan, and pay close attention to the individuals that loose their heads. And I task you to consider that Bloodraven was considered or have been better than her. But give the context, was he better… or was she better by that time? Starks like to behead, I wonder what became of the head of Lerys Strong…
Ya it's tinfoil, but you aren't going to find a better name similarity, and combined with a lost daughter that had been on her way to Lys which opens the door to survival and you only need to ask the two ships that left hardhome how much those guys love to stumble on people to sell as slaves. Bonus tinfoil I'll accidentally drop an extra a in her name (Melysaandre). You think the Saan family would be interested in the lost child of the rogue prince and his mistress of whispers? And given the foil suggesting Illyrio and a Saan connection that get weird. Do you think he might have secretly married his mistress? Oh damn Dany, your great great great great great aunt is looking at your throne…
Alright, so, Mysaria was known as the white worm. The castle Dick Crabb leads to has a pale stranger. And the kindly man had a white worm in his eye while the figure Bran finds has a root coming out if his eye that looks like a white worm.
I don't want to waste your time by typing out a novel connecting all those. But I'll leave you with all those things. Including the purple moss that is seen in Ny Sar, Volantis(slave trade and biggest red temple), the keep in the whispers, and the Citadel. Enjoy
i so enjoy your videos. hope your Christmas was joyful!
I think she is the carrier of the fire that makes lightbringer. She is this generations Nissa Nissa. She is looking for AA to make lightbringer for him. But I think its about the 3 headed dragon…not one but 3 people who awake their inner dragon by dying and getting resurrected (reborn…cause a fire wight can't be turned into an ice wight). I think dany awoke HER dragon when she birthed her dragons. She is the stallion the witch was afraid would be born to burn cities to the ground. Unfortunately her actions were what awoke dany…she might have died and got reborn. Jon is the PTWP he got reborn as well. That only leaves the dragon breathing shadow fire from the tower to be reborn during the long night…AA and his Lightbringer…mell will die creating lightbringer (cause her fire will go out of her and into the sword). I have a feeling thats where arya will come into play.
Well done again! She is Jaime—she killed Shireen while he tried to kill Bran. I like her best when she had her religious doubts when Jon was dead.
Sorry I'm late for my history lesson, Prof!! 😂 I'm gonna miss you when the show ends. If I wasn't unemployed right now, I'd love to support you in Patreon. Thanks for all you do!!
Happy New Year dear sweet boy..You nailed it …I have this theory that Mellisandra had been the first Nissa Nissa/Red Priestess sacrificed for the AA/Lord of Light..Remember the Greek myth of the God Apollo falls in love with the Trojan princess/priestess Cassandra..that leaded to her death [Clytaimnistra Agamemnons wife killed her stabbing her in heart]in the Iliad ..that myth i was talking to my comment in your previous vid…Its similar with the AA/Lord of Light/Nissa Nissa myth..The same did happened with the Lord of Light/AA and Mellisandra/Nissa Nissa..He fall in love with her ..that leaded him to sacrificed her for to defeat the first NK ..and after NK get defeated he resurrected her and make her immortal, giving in her powers beyond from every fantasy that you state ..she decided to thanks him serving as his first priestess ..She will die again as nissa nissa for him..being destroy completely this time the NK..If Jon or Danny or Bran is the Lightbringer [His sword]..she will offer herself to him and will want Jon or Danny to kill her ….She said to Jon that together can create shadows, fire and light in S5…He touched her heart and find it her very hot..like she has fever..She in S6 stated to him that she centuries ready to die [again?]for him to kill the NK..She stated to Varys her death in Westeros and confirmed his death also..She is in love with the Lord of Light ..Duty is the death of love and love the death of duty ..She will make her duty again to him ..and will offer her love for the sacrifice be successful and completed better this time. What do you think?
The red priests aren’t fire wights. They create fire wights. They are fire walkers. The gods are collective consciousness just like in Martin’s other book about the plants. This is a commentary about religion. The gods aren’t real but the collectives that comprise them are and are capable of great power based on their dedication to the collective just like in real life religion only here the collective has magic. Rhillor is the fire collective. The great other is the ice collective. John snow is the individualist who brings peace. This is a commentary on the nature of religion mysticism and war blown out into huge proportions George Martin style. Melisandre is the cold hands of the fire collective stuck both in and out of the collective.
The most misunderstood character in GOT.
