Winter is definitely coming but the Game of Thrones prequel that was tentatively titled Bloodmoon is not, after it was revealed that HBO has apparently scrapped the show.
Before GOT fans commiserate too much however, HBO have already swept in to reveal that, despite the fact that the Naomi Watts centered series has been cancelled, another new prequel to the hit TV show is on the way.
The newly announced prequel will be called House of the Dragon and will focus on House Targaryen, the family of Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) in the main series.
So when can we expect to see House of the Dragon on our screens?
When will the confirmed Game Of Thrones prequel be released?
Just hours after it was revealed that Bloodmoon has been cancelled, HBO announced plans for House of the Dragon, with Casey Bloys, president of HBO programming sharing: ‘It’s my pleasure to announce today that we are ordering House of the Dragon straight to series for HBO.
‘It tells the story of House Targaryen and the early days of Westeros.’
The show will be set 300 years before the original Game of Thrones TV series was and will be based on Fire and Blood by author George R. R. Martin.
Following the Targaryen’s arrival in Westeros and the establishment of their royal dynasty, the series will likely build to a crescendo where it will show the dramatic inter-family civil war known as The Dance of the Dragons that took place while the Targaryen’s were in power.
While this all sounds incredibly exciting, unfortunately little more has been said by HBO about House of the Dragon.
The show is yet to be given a release date, so fans will have to stay tuned for further announcements from show bosses in the future.
