One thing I don't like with Star Trek is Reboot! There is a ton of history and side stories to this franchise. Why didn't they go into other backstories? That's why I'm a Jedi (or Sith) nerd. But we are both nerds and geeks, so just put down your lightsabers and phasers.

Star Trek and Game of Thrones vs. Star Wars and Lord of the Rings.
The first ones are TV based, have lesser budgets but are far more intelligent and have time to develop storys and characters, the other ones are on the big screens with ton of moneys thus breath-taking sets and most impressive special effects but they are also far more superficial and lacking depth.
Star Trek and Gotstand for content, Star Wars and LotR stand for style.
