What's Eating Gilbert Grape
As a fan of the original series when it aired, I would watch the gritty remake of power rangers in a heart beat, I would take my nephew with me, and his dad would go too.
A) I agree that there should be a gritty version of Power Rangers. It could be like the Harry Potter series where it gets darker as the series moves forward. I loved the original series as a kid, but started becoming unpopular as I grew older.
B) Return to Oz is my favorite movie. Better than the first. Also, Fairuza Balk was awesome in The Craft.
C) I'd like a hard edge remake of Brave Little Toaster. Have it set in an apocalyptic world. Terminator meets The Wiz.
The Neverending Story (the book) is actually really dark. After Bastian gets his wishes, he becomes power-hungry, wanting the throne for himself. He joins forces with an evil witch and marches up to the ivory tower with an army only to find Atreju, whom he banished after trying to talk sense into Bastian, with his own army. Bla bla bla, fighting, Bastian stabs Atreju in the fucking chest, the ivory tower burns but Bastian eventually fails. Now, he wanders around Fantastica, without memory (each wissh cost one of his memories, another thing the movei ignored) completely lost, esapes an insane asylum run by a monkey, finds a mother-like figure who he leaves behind with a heavy heart and finds out that he must clean up his mess in order to leave. He meets Atreju and Falcor, who offer to do this for him so he can return home. You can see why the author was kinda pissed off with the film makers, they literally adapted half of his book.
As far as the 1st fight is concerned, I agree with Matt's argument. Now, I have not seen the gritty Power/Rangers fan short (nor do I WANT to), so I can't make a fair judgement on that front. However, I'm a HUGE Power Rangers fan, always was, always will be. That being said, I agree with both Matt and Jason David Frank when they say that this fan short shouldn't be a Saban-approved thing. Why? Because while, yes, there is a growing adult fan base for the Power Rangers franchise, the majority of the fans are KIDS.  And that's because Power Rangers, to this day, is seen in mainstream America as a KID'S SHOW. If I had kids, I would NOT take them to a dark, gritty, hard-R rated Power Rangers movie with drugs, swearing, gun violence, or any of that because that's not how I would want my kids to see the Power Rangers. Just my opinion.
