Northern Irish actor BJ Hogg has died at the age 65 with his long time agent Geoff Stanton saying there ‘just weren’t the words’ to express the shock and sadness at the news of his death.
BJ was an actor best known for his role in hit comedy Give My Head Peace.
He played Big Mervyn in the BBC Northern Ireland series for over two decades and the team behind the show paid tribute to the star upon the news of his passing saying: ‘BJ is part of the Give My Head Peace family.
‘He was a fine actor, great colleague and a true friend. Our thoughts are with his wife Elish, son Nathan and daughter Abigail at this time.’
BJ’s acting career spanned over 35 years and although Give My Head Peace was by far his most iconic role, the star also in films such as Your Highness, Hunger, The Woman in White and The Secret, as well as TV shows including The Fall, Holby City and Game of Thrones.

Game of Thrones fans may recognise BJ Hogg from his appearance in Season One of Game of Thrones, where he played Ser Addam Marbrand, a bannerman for House Lannister.
He appeared in the show in 2011 in an episode called Fire and Blood, in which Robb Stark vows to get revenge on the Lannisters and Daenerys enters her husband’s funeral pyre in an iconic scene which sees her say her final goodbye to Drogo, before reappearing from the flames unscathed with hatched dragons.
