Game of Thrones only ended a week ago, but many fans are already can’t wait for the first prequel to be produced.

The first prequel series was announced by HBO earlier this year, with filming of a pilot episode about to get underway.

The TV network has already released cast and plot details for the show, which will be set thousands of years before the events of Game of Thrones.

Viewers will also get to find out secrets about Westeros, including the origins of the White Walkers and the history of the Starks.

It is currently being referred to as Bloodmoon, although the official name for the series is unconfirmed.

Who is in the Game of Thrones prequel cast?

Naomi Watts is set to be one of the leading stars in the new series, and she will be playing ‘a charismatic socialite hiding a dark secret’.

She has received two Oscar nominations during her career for her leading roles in 21 Grams and The Impossible.

The actress will be joined by Josh Whitehouse, who is most well-known for his role as Lieutenant Hugh Armitage in the BBC drama Poldark.

Naomi Ackie, known for playing Lady MacBeth, Jamie Campbell Bower of Harry Potter fame and Georgie Henley from The Chronicles of Narnia will all be featuring in the new drama as well.

Other big names include John Simm, John Heffernan, Miranda Richardson and Richard McCabe.

Behind the camera will be Jane Goldman, who has worked on movies like Kingsman, X-Men and Kick-Ass, as well as George R.R. Martin, who is the author behind the books that inspired the original Game of Thrones series.

Executive producer for the show will be SJ Clarkson, who has worked on various series, including Defenders and Jessica Jones.

When is the Game of Thrones prequel?

The casting is already done and filming for the pilot episode is about to get underway, according to reports.

The bad news is that we may have to wait a while until the first prequel is released.

HBO’s programming president Casey Bloys has said that it’s difficult to give an estimate of when the pilot episode will be released.

Casey told Deadline: ‘Shooting a pilot in June and having it on the air a year later feels a little rushed, but it’s too soon to tell.’

There’s even a chance that the prequel might not get a second episode, with HBO boss Bob Greenblatt saying: ‘We’re just trying to be really thoughtful about how to expand this universe if it makes sense, and not, like I said, kill the golden goose.’
