It’s all to play for over in Westeros, as the final series is being filmed for a 2019 release.
There are all sorts of rumours about who will appear, with fan theories hoping to see Khal Drogo, Edmure Tully, and Rhaegar Targaryen back on the show.
Given that the new season will be based on two previously unpublished books by George RR Martin, it’s hard to tell who’s going to be back.
We do have a few hints on who might be joining the cast, however.
New cast
- Marc Rissmann as Harry Strickland
- Seamus O’Hara as Fergus
- Alice Nokes (who played Courtney Mitchell in EastEnders) as Willa
- Danielle Galligan as Sarra
- Emer McDaid as a to-be-confirmed character
Other new characters
- Northern girl
- Boy
- Northern farmer
- Sassy and attractive girl
- Northern sentry
- Sailor
- Guard 1
- Guard 2
- Mercenary
- Village girl
- Clean-shaven grieving man
It seems that Sarra and Willa may be relations of Walder Frey, given that Sarra is his granddaughter in the books and Willa sounds suspiciously like his own name (he has a habit of giving similar names to his kids).
The two actors were spotted hanging out with Emer McDaid, which led to plenty of speculation that the three shared a scene together. Could she be part of House Frey too?
Toby Osmond, who is known for his role as Thomas Cromwell in Henry VIII and His Six Wives, has also revealed that he will be appearing in the upcoming season of GOT.
On his online CvV, he said he had ‘Earlier this year completed filming a great royal role in the next (and final) series of an epic network fantasy saga (airing Spring 2019).’
Rumours have abounded that he’s due to play a Dornishman in the series,
Despite the fact it’s the last ever season, plenty of new characters are being introduced, as you can see from the second list. We’ll have to wait and see how strong a role they play in the plot.
It looks like producers are much more keen to improvisation this time around, with plenty of the casting ads stating this was a requirement. This could prove very interesting – either in a comedic or dramatic sense – as we see the actors’ personalities come through.
