Stylax has left Plebs – and fans want to know why.

Joel Fry, who has played Stylax in the ITV2 comedy Plebs since 2013 , announced he was leaving the series in March.

And his exit was dealt with in the pre-credits scene of the first episode of the brand new fourth series, which debuted on Monday night.

In fact, fans were left in shock as they saw Stylax bow out of the show in no uncertain terms.

How? A slab fell on him, killing him.

Fry had played the main character of Stylax for the first three seasons of the Roman sitcom.

His replacement, Jonathan Pointing, appeared for the first time in last night’s episode, playing the role of builder Jason.

Fry has not publicly given a reason for his departure from the ITV2 show and he tweeted his support for the new eight-part series last night.

However, it seems his exit was to enable him to take up a variety of other TV work.

He has since starred in Requiem, Ordinary Lies, Cla’am, Drunk History: UK, Game Of Thrones, W1A and Paddington 2.

Plebs airs on Mondays on ITV2 at 10pm.
