I agree to the first part but not the second part, where you meant Ned could not demand trial by combat as he was a Northerner, follower of Old Gods, while Trial by Combat is a tradition of the follower of Seven Gods because Ned's father had demanded a trial by combat from the Mad's king, where the latter announced Fire as his champion and roasted him in his armour

If he demaded that, who will champion him? He is already wounded from the fight with jamie so he wouldnt be in top form if he fought for himself. The Lannisters on the other hand will either pick Jamie or the mountain. Which at that time quite invincible.

He didn't ask for a trial by combat because he didn't want to be burned alive.

If you all remember, he got stabbed in the back of the leg while fighting Jaime Lannister by one of his henchman. Plus, he was told that if bend the knee he would he live.

Wasn't he still hurt from the injury he got fighting Jamie he wasn't fully healed
