  1. I noticed that on the map of the world Iceland wasn´t colored as the other countries that show GoT. You can, of course, watch it here in Iceland. Though I like to watch it without subtitles. Best regards from the land north of The Wall

  2. I agree with the fact that game of thrones mirrors our world at times. Dany coming to Essos and using military might to try to change the society only to be insurrected by the harpies has to be a reflection on the Americans using their military strength to try to bring democracy to the Middle East only be be constantly undermined by jihadists.

More recently Madrid (kings landing) sending the civil guard from all over Spain to put the Catalan separatists (wealthy region like highgarden) in their place and succeeding through force and might reminded me of the fall of the reach in the last season.

  3. I really love GoT, the only thing I dont like, that the show is feminist. Women were important in the medieval times, every man had in his back a smart, manipulative woman.(like the red woman behind Stannis) But watching the show with Dany, Ellaria Sand, Lady Olena, the Greyjoy woman – all of them discussing military strategies, and all the men behind them silent, dont dare to say a word….. then in Kings Landing Cersie is crowning herself Queen (again the men say nothing… why they did not call the court to discuss who will be the next in line?), on Winterfell Sansa is growing to be the one who is better queen than Jon as king, and there is Arya, who is almost a man. Brienne almost killed the Hund…. the very young girl, Lady Mormont has more balls than the warriors, and in the books Lady Stoneheart is leading the Brotherhood without banners…. why? why? 🙂 to be honest…. the men in this show are weak. Thanks god the White Walkers have no woman leaders. … I have nothing against women, they are beautiful and smart, but come on, this is too much. I personally will be very disappointed if the show ends with a woman on the Iron Throne… anyway, thank you, your videos are amazing! 🙂

  4. I love how unbiased you are about the show/books and characters. You are my favorite GoT youtuber because you seem to love the show the way I do. It is really hard to find a youtube channel that doesn't let their hate for one or more of the characters seep into their video. You're just passionate about it and it's so refreshing.

  5. I love how well the secondary characters are developed. Their depth adds another later the story and takes away from the maim characters having to be perfect. such unique personalities like twin compared to varays and even the direwolves

  6. I have been watching game of thrones from the very beginning
Even though there too much detail that went over my head time to time i liked it in the beginning ( 1st season to be exact) cuz i was able to follow the broad strokes and characters suming up their thought process in some really epic dialogue

  7. Thanks Gemma, once again you lay it all out no holds barred and get right to it. The complex idea that is A Game Of Thrones is something that will for generations to come I believe be dissected and analyzed from every angle possible. Growing up I never thought I'd have any degree of interest more than that of The Hobbit and The lord of the Rings. It wasn't until 4 years ago when I first started reading the books that I began to realize that there was something to all this. Once I read the books I began to watch the show. THe emotional rollercoaster I've been riding is close to obsession. I also often think if JRR Tolkien had wrote his stories with the kind of technology and issues of this time how different his work would have been and would we be comparing Game of Thrones or any medieval type story to his. We have to start somewhere I suppose. LIfe if about constant change either we can accept what was and build on it or stay we we are and keep repeating the same. As we become more advanced in some ways we fall further behind. The part that keeps us human gets lost. Maybe the lesson is that at the end of the day and we are alone with our thoughts do we close our eyes and be at peace with the choices we've made or toss and turn and play what if because sometimes there are no right or wrong answers.

  8. Blimey, Gemma, this is an absolute jewel. You covered all the bases of our passion for this wondrous saga (books and show), and imparted your own deep and learned passion. Yes, it is an addiction, but oh so delicious when it isn't utterly agonising. I've been living with it since the millennium and other than my impatience for GRRM to finish the bloody story, I actually don't want it to end. I always enjoy your videos, and it's so lovely basking in what I take as a North of England accent. But this is one video for the ages and I shall be recommending it on every GoT site I know of. I'm social media shy, so that's about all I can contribute.

  9. Y I LOVE A Song of Ice and Fire: well I first found out about Thrones from my cell mate when I was in prison. He would go on and on about it and tell me the goings on of Westeros while we played cards and ate meals. When he got released he left me his books and put a yellow post it note on the cover of ASOIAF stating” Escape”. I half thought to find a pick in the book like Shawshank redemption lol. So that night I started reading the story and ended up staying all night reading, I then knew what “escape” meant. Prison is tough place to survive physically and mentally but when I was reading Thrones the prison walls would away, And I’d be teleported to a different world. I immediatly identified wit Theon and Jon’s story line because I grew up in foster homes and kno what it feels like to be an outsider in “your home”. I absolutely hated Ser Jaime he reminded me a of rich kids at school that smug assholes and I wanted him to die! Now Ser Jaime is my favorite character and all I want is for him to get his White Book moment(cause there’s still time for a 40 y/o knight with one hand). Long I know but my FAV part of GOT is the theory crafting we get to do so I hope GRRM takes his time.

  10. The book is usually, better than a visual adaptation, film or tv. But of all the adaptations I've seen, this is one of the best. No its not faithful to the books, but compared to other adaptations like the hitch hikers guide to the galaxy, for example, it's amazing. What I'm saying is, be thankful for what you have, because it could be much worse.

  11. I watched the show before I was a reader. What hooked me initially was when Bran caught Cersei and Jamie, and got pushed out of the tower, as a result. I was like, "holy $hit, did they really just go there?". What kept me watching was the world building. When I watch or read the series, I'm not the average citizen just trying to make ends meet and raise a family. None of that exists, I'm in an entirely different world. The temporary escapism is nice.

  12. As a reader of Tolkien and a former player of World of Warcraft (get motion sick when I try to play now), I was hooked at the first episode. I had to immediately go out and by all the books. Love the books and the show, and watch too many YouTube channels about Game of Thrones now!

  13. I love it but I do not fully agree with that a lot of thought and care has been put into this world bulding. Population and lack of different languages, for example, is a minus. But it doesn't bother me that much. GRRM ain't Tolkien in that aspect so not a huge deal.
