HBO’s Game of Thrones is arguably one of the most popular series on the planet, so why is the fantasy juggernaut not nominated for any Golden Globes in 2019?

With the final season premiering in April of 2019, HBO’s Game of Thrones has captivated fans since the very beginning.

From sword fights to dragons to magic, this series is highly-acclaimed and considered one of the best pieces of media out there year in and year out.

Naturally, this acclaim spills into awards shows of all types, as Game of Thrones has taken home awards for everything from acting to design and has been nominated for almost any award and any category that anyone could possibly imagine.

So why isn’t Game of Thrones nominated for any Golden Globes in 2019?

Well, the answer to this one is quite simple: Game of Thrones has not aired since 2017 and is therefore ineligible to receive any awards at the Golden Globes.

The way award shows work is that if it didn’t happen recently it’s probably not eligible for any awards.

Don’t freak out, Game of Thrones fans. Your favorite series wasn’t snubbed, and there were not that many shows better than Game of Thrones this year — it just was ineligible.

Obviously, once the final season airs in 2019, we will likely see Game of Thrones dominate at every awards show. Not only is the final season all but guaranteed to be good (I mean, it always is), but extremely popular series tend to do well at awards shows right after their final seasons.
