Not long after The Twilight Saga concluded, Summit Entertainment geared up for its next young adult franchise: Ender’s Game. Based on the Orson Scott Card novel of the same name, Ender’s Game was envisioned as the first in a series of new sci-fi films—after all, there’s a ton of written material to draw from—but the series got canned long before its completion. Here’s why we never got to see an Ender’s Game sequel…

  1. I enjoyed the movie, never read the books. But young adult movies like this are always just a flash in the pan every decade or so. One generation loves them, next generation hates them. Now people are starting to hate them and the genre is going into hibernation. Did it deserve a sequel? No.

  2. Orson Scott Cards novels have always been my favorite, and they are certainly not young adult novels. They're fairly complex and in depth, and explore a lot of material that most young adults would fail to grasp. They're not necessarily profound, but they certainly have more substance than those god awful YA novels. Card is a brilliant writer, regardless of his political views. This movie was…disappointing, for fans of the novels. I'm glad they didn't make another one, because they were forced to skim over a lot of important materials from the novels.

  3. ……….. Which sequel are you even talking about? Ender's Shadow or the following book since the first book is almost Ender's Game from a different point of view? or Speaker of the Dead or the inbetween, Ender in Exile? Cuz they don't really need most of the chacters, except Ender in Exile…though I can't remember his age in the Exile book.

  4. It was the cliff's notes version of a short book to begin with. Didn't explain that the kids developed all the programs/tools to enable fleet management. or how they adapted the wargame lessons into the fleet tactics. just bad adaptation.

  5. I thought the movie was pretty good. Filming it like a young adult movie kinda ruined it a bit, but when you try to take the movie more seriously, the ramifications of the ending, you realize it could have been aimed at a more mature audience if they marketed it right.

  6. Loved this movie. Card is an excellent author as well. People boycott movies for the stupidest reasons…it doesn't matter what the guys views are since that didn't make it into the movie.

  7. Can we be honest right now…..its not anything outside the film being horribly made and basically shit. it didnt follow anywhere near close enough to the source material. The book was wonderful and popular in mant places including being on the Marine Corps reading list.
The movie needed to be made inn the same regard as the hobbit (3 movies). The peter/valentine story arch was ommitted completely. The giants goblet game was poorly translated. They through in a senseless bullshit love interest in petra (which ruins speaker for the dead since thats his first love interest and occurs when hes like 40). Worm is introduced on the same plane ride and the nearly decade story arch is shortened to basically a few months. If this movie is to be remade fire the writers and produces and make the actual damn movie.
