Post-production work is now underway on House of the Dragon, the prequel to Game of Thrones. The eagerly anticipated Targaryen saga will arrive on television this summer. At Leavesden Studios, the program is presently reshooting. One of the many actors who gave a stellar performance in House of the Dragon was Wil Johnson, who played Vaemond Velaryon. Despite the massive scale of production, he says filming the show was easy for him.
House of the Dragon was one of the easiest jobs for Wil Johnson
Johnson gave fans one of the most memorable sequences in House of the Dragon Season 1 as Vaemond Velaryon. In a recent interview with The Bolton News, he recalled his working experience, “It was one of the most amazing opportunities and I got the chance to experience what the big boys do all the time.”
“I was like ‘So this is the level that they work at. For these major TV series, it’s all about time and resources which they have in abundance. The only thing you need to concern yourself with is your acting. For me, even though it was this big beast of a show, it was actually one of the easiest jobs I’ve done. I could just focus on the acting.”
Wil Johnson contrasts between theatre and working on House of the Dragon
Before working on House of the Dragon, Johnson was mostly known for doing theatre. He compared his theatre time to the Game of Thrones prequel, “It’s a million miles away from the world of an HBO Max TV series that’s for sure, laughed Wil. “Look, we’re actors and we have we got to go with the work – that’s the bottom line. We have bills to pay and lives to live.”
“So it’s rare you get the opportunity to have your cake and eat it; to have the opportunity to be part of one of the biggest franchises in the world – I even got my own trailer. But I love the theatre and being able to come here and be part of this production is such an enjoyable challenge and such a contrast to flying around with dragons.”
