HBO’s Game of Thrones prequel series House of the Dragon is now in full swing, and we’re really enjoying it so far. The storyline is entertaining and the cast is just phenomenal. We’re not ready to say goodbye to Milly Alcock and Emily Carey in the coming weeks when their characters age and older actors Emma D’Arcy and Olivia Cooke step in, even though we’re sure they’ll crush it.

Although we’re only three episodes into House of the Dragon, HBO has already renewed the fantasy series for a second season, which is great news. There’s a lot of material to cover in Fire & Blood, George R.R. Martin’s 2018 book that the show is based on, so it would be a shame if the series didn’t continue.

In looking ahead to House of the Dragon season 2, of course we’re curious to see what new cast members are added. And there have been some interesting rumors out there about pretty well-known actors joining the cast… which we don’t exactly believe.

Elizabeth Olsen and Henry Cavill House of the Dragon rumors

The gossip started when the site Giant Freakin Robot ran a story claiming Marvel star Elizabeth Olsen is “in talks” to join House of the Dragon‘s second season. The report doesn’t cite a reliable source such as Variety or The Hollywood Reporter (sites who often break this kind of news) but instead mentions that this information comes from their “trusted and proven sources.” Hm.

Of course, social media has run with this report without it being confirmed by the actress herself. We wouldn’t be so fast to believe it. As we mentioned, Olsen has not spoken out on this rumor, nor has anyone who works on House of the Dragon. While it’d be cool to see the Scarlet Witch out in Westeros, it seems this is just a rumor.

As for the second big rumor surrounding the House of the Dragon season 2 cast, people are also claiming The Witcher star Henry Cavill will be joining. This one seems even less credible, as it comes from an alleged known leaker (per Cosmic Book News) who goes by RPK on Twitter. An account called Geek Vibes Nation tweeted out the “news” about Cavill and Olsen, which has sparked a ton of conversation on the platform. The tweet tags the RPK account as their source.

Similar to the Olsen rumor, Cavill has not responded to this, nor has anyone at HBO. We know Cavill looks great in a white wig from his role as Geralt of Rivia, but does he really belong in the Game of Thrones prequel? Eh.

Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon have done a great job casting many lesser-known or up-and-coming actors in starring roles, which is why we don’t see Elizabeth Olsen or Henry Cavill appearing in the prequel’s second season. Until someone more credible confirms these alleged castings, we’ll just ignore the gossip. We’d suggest you do, too.

House of the Dragon premieres new episodes every Sunday night at 9:00 p.m. ET.
