We’re just a few weeks out from the premiere of House of the Dragon, HBO’s Game of Thrones prequel series. Set some 200 years before the original show, it tells the tale of a brutal Targaryen civil war that tore the realm apart. This could be good, people.
That said, if you’re hoping to see familiar faces pop up, you’re outta luck. With the possible exception of Melisandre (and we wouldn’t expect her to turn up), no one from the original show was alive during this period. There will be an exciting cast of newcomers, but no one we already know.
That includes Kit Harington, one of the big names to come out of Game of Thrones. Sorry, everyone, but Jon Snow will not be in House of the Dragon. At the time of the show, he won’t be born for well over 100 years yet.
Kit Harington won’t be in House of the Dragon, but may appear in a Game of Thrones sequel show
That said, we could still see Kit Harington and Jon Snow back onscreen one day. You see, after Game of Thrones ended, HBO began casting about for potential spinoff series. Harington reportedly approached them with an idea for a sequel show that would explore what happens to Jon Snow after the end of season 8, when he was banished to the Wall.
There’s no guarantee that this show will actually get made, but if it does, we could potentially see lots of former cast members returning, not just Kit Harington but also Kristofer Hivju (Tormund Giantsbane), Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark), and who knows who else?
But we won’t have details on that for a while yet, if we ever do. In the meantime, House of the Dragon premieres on HBO and HBO Max on August 21.
