For years, fans of A Song of Ice and Fire have eagerly awaited The Winds of Winter, the long-promised next installment in George R.R. Martin’s epic saga. However, Martin’s ever-expanding list of projects continues to raise concerns about whether the book will ever see the light of day. His latest endeavor? A collaboration with the studio behind Blue Eye Samurai, a critically acclaimed animated series that Martin himself has praised in the past.

Quick read:

  • Martin joins Blue Eye Samurai’s studio for an animated Hercules adaptation set in 1920s Mississippi.
  • He praised Blue Eye Samurai as “terrific” and “magnificent” in a blog post.
  • Concerns over The Winds of Winter grow as Martin takes on more projects.

George R.R. Martin’s New Project with Blue Eye Samurai Studio

George R.R. Martin has teamed up with animation studios Lion Forge and Blue Spirit to develop a new adaptation of the Hercules myth, based on Howard Waldrop’s A Dozen Tough Jobs. This reimagining shifts the legendary Greek hero’s trials to 1920s Mississippi, offering a fresh cultural perspective on the classic tale. Martin’s involvement in this project further cements his growing interest in animation, a medium he has recently championed.

Martin’s Praise for Blue Eye Samurai

George R.R. Martin has previously expressed his admiration for Blue Eye Samurai, calling it “terrific” and “magnificent” in a blog post. He described the series as “violent, visceral, sexy (and more than a little kinky in spots), with amazing action sequences and a cast of well-developed characters.” He even encouraged fans of his own work to give it a try, stating, “If you like my own stuff, I think you’ll love it”.

While Martin’s new venture is exciting, it inevitably raises the question: Will The Winds of Winter ever be finished? With each new project, the wait grows longer, leaving fans to wonder if Westeros will ever see its next chapter.
