Game of Thrones was undoubtedly one of the biggest shows of the 21st century, easily recognized as a pop culture icon. Fans of the epic fantasy series rarely miss out on a chance to celebrate and relive the world of George R. R. Martin’s universe, and fantasy lovers who were lucky enough to be in the British town of Barnoldswick attended the most recent Game of Thrones-themed festival.
Despite the imminent threat of the approaching storm Malik, the town hall was full to the brim as people made their way around the Game of Thrones-themed event that included Liverpool-based sculptor Matthew Chaloner inviting people to carve a block of the Barlick ice wall.
There was an ice trail around the town, including ice sculptures of an eagle, a dire wolf, and the nightmarish white walkers, inspired from the hugely popular novels by George R. R. Martin and the HBO fantasy series. There was also a winter market, children’s rides, a circus show, and even a sculpted dragon.
The festival was one of a series of events funded by Covid recovery cash through the regeneration company, West Craven Together and Barnoldswick Town Council. The next event will be Spud Day food festival on February 12.
