The second season of House of the Dragon is scheduled to premiere in the summer of 2024, with much anticipation among fans. Based on George R.R. Martin‘s “Fire and Blood,” the Game of Thrones prequel exposes us to a host of new characters from Westeros’ past. However, HBO is already quite confident about the success of Season 2, and there’s a good chance the network has already begun to develop the next season.

House of the Dragon Season 3 development might’ve already begun

The debut season of House of the Dragon was a massive success, and the second installment was put into development even before the finale aired. The same thing might be happening to the second season of House of the Dragon, but even more in advance. According to an insider report by Redanian Intelligence, there’s a high possibility that in January 2024, development on House of the Dragon Season 3 will commence in earnest, including active screenplay writing and other very early stuff.

George R. R. Martin hinted at script development of Season 3

In an earlier post on his blog Not a Blog, Martin revealed he had a meeting with the showrunner Ryan Condal as well as the writers about future seasons. He wrote,

“I also spent two days locked in a room with Ryan Condal and his writing staff (Sara Hess, Ti Mikkel, David Hancock, and Philippa Goslett) talking about the third and fourth seasons of HOUSE OF THE DRAGON. They were lively, fun discussions, and we got some good work done…”
