Number one on everyone’s list is the mythical Dragonstone. While the castle isn’t real, the entrance is, and it’s stunning. The 241 steps you see often enough on the show, actually lead to San Juan de Gaztelugatxe, a church and one-time monastery, which is located in Basque Country, a region in Spain. The site is already a popular religious pilgrimage, so while Dany’s season seven homebase has always been busy, it’s inundated with visitors right now. Gaztelugatxe’s local tourism office says the tourism is fine so far, but some are worried it could get too busy for the steps to handle.
According to The Daily Dot, a Spanish newspaper said the steps received 75,000 tourists during July, so about 2,400 people a day. And when you climb to the top, you can ring a bell and make a wish, and so yeah, it’s a lot of bell ringing at Dragonstone.
