Game of Thrones star Hafþór Júlíus ‘Thor’ Björnsson is launching a new series of workout videos online, helping fans to get as ripped as his character The Mountain.

With gyms set to close from Thursday as part of a second national lockdown, the actor will lead sessions based on the training techniques he uses to prepare for strongman competitions.

The actor and former bodybuilder is hosting live sessions over Zoom on November 3 and 4, helping people maintain their strength from home. The workouts cover a speed session and lactic acid tolerance session.

Places for the sessions are free, but fans must register to take part. Guests can sign up for the sessions here.

Thor is known for his performance as Gregor ‘The Mountain’ Clegane on the HBO series, playing the fearsome knight known for his immense strength and enormous size.

He’s also known for his strongman career, having won the Arnold Strongman Classic, Europe’s Strongest Man and World’s Strongest Man and set the world deadlift record earlier this year.

Speaking about the sessions, Thor said: ‘Lockdown is tough for us gym goers as many won’t have had the space or equipment to be able to continue building muscles in the rate as before.

‘To help people to maintain their strength over the next few, I’ve teamed up with Lindahls PRO to curate a series of workouts focused on a different style of training I use when preparing for strongman competitions.’

He added: ‘Workouts are free to join and are designed for a mixture of abilities – whether you are ready to get back into the gym or not. Places are on a first come, first serve basis, so sign up, join me, and see how I train to build and maintain muscle strength.’

Thor’s Game of Thrones character The Mountain met his demise in one of the show’s most shocking moments during a trial by combat with the Viper in series four, but was later brought back from the dead by ex-maester Qyburn.

Game of Thrones is available to stream on NOW TV.
