In our latest Small Council roundtable discussion, we debated the best death scene of Game of Thrones season 7, and asked you to weigh in. Now, the results of our poll are in. What was the best death scene from the past seven episodes? Let’s have a look.
As you can see, the death of Petyr “Littlefinger” Baelish tops the list, beating Olenna Tyrell’s badass exit for the Best Death award. Littlefinger’s death scene was a great chance for Aiden Gillen to off his acting chops. Commenter
agrees:I never thought I’d say this, but Little Finger’s death actually made me tear up a little. Masterful acting.
voted for Littlefinger’s death because of Gillen’s acting, too, but wasn’t impressed with the storyline at Winterfell. “The Winterfell storyline was rather weak and LF’s death predictable but I voted for it simply because Aiden Gillen’s acting was superb.” That performance went a long way.
Arya’s killing of the Frey’s was another popular choice. “House freys demise gets my vote, season opened with a bang. Couldn’t happen to a nicer bunch,” said James g. It probably would have been even more popular if we’d remembered to put it on the poll to start…sorry about that. And Anonne went a bit off the beaten path when describing all the Lannister soldiers Daenerys killed during the Loot Train Attack:
I voted for all the crispy Lannister soldiers. There is something about “Dracarys” plus that scary-as-hell violin in the music that made it seem even more terrible. Mad respect for the other deaths but that was the one set of deaths that was really horrifying for me.
Mrspeel2, meanwhile, was wondering something about Biff the wight, who was brought to King’s Landing to prove the existence of the army of the dead to Cersei Lannister. “I still don’t understand why “Biff” didn’t fall to pieces like the other Wights when their White Walker leader was struck down,” he said. Who knows? Maybe the White Walker who raised him got sick of him and begged he be reassigned. Freaking Biff.
wasn’t a fan of Tyene Sand’s final moments.
I think I’m the only one who hated the scene in the dungeon with Tyene and Ellaria. The acting was really great (Lena Headey, too, obviously). But I’d long been “over” those characters…I was ready for their storylines to end and didn’t want any more time (precious little that we had this season) spent on them. Also the fact that the worst character of the season (EURON, UGH) had a hand in their demise annoyed me.
In my opinion, this was the most terrifying death on the show. To have to watch your daughter die mere inches from you, and then to have to watch her body decay…I can think of nothing worse. so mileage varies.
