  1. the thumbnail is wrong, Danny is clearly an upper class anti slavery expansionist, obviously a late 19th century progressive republican while Jon/Aegon is a pro mass migration, religiously tolerant, war skeptic who strongly opposes unethical tactics like burning the red keep our cluster bombs making him a hyper liberal democrat

  2. I totally agree with you that there is a chance the story will end with an elected king/queen. Dany's wheel speech was a metaphor of a central government that has representatives from each "elected party/house" voicing their opinions and participating in governance. Just to point out though, Robb and Jon didnt become kings because they were "elected".. they became kings because they are Starks which is the "royal" family of the North. Jon for ex didnt really do anything profound during the BOTB to inspire the Northern houses but he became king because they thought he was son of Ned, which makes him descendant of the Winter kings. If Rickon was alive, Rickon would have been made king instead of Jon. However, an example of an election process in GOT is that of Jon getting clearly elected to be Lord Commander of the Night's Watch previously. We also see democracy in how majority of the people of Slaver's Bay (where the commoners outnumber slavers) chose Dany to be their queen..last season Dany tells Darrio that he will stay in control of the region in Essos until the people chose their own leader, which pretty much indicates that she is pushing for an elected government too. Considering Jon's history and Dany's belief that she will have no children, I can see them both pushing for the establishment of an elected government to rule the kingdoms. Having said that, I see Westeros first going into constitutional monarchy then down the line becoming democratic but it wont happen right away

  3. The Iron throne is made from all the swords of the defeated enemies in Westeros, Valerian steel was always very rare, so even if a vast number of these enemies had Valerian steel (which seems extreme unlikely) they would probably put the Valerian steel swords aside to use themselves.

  4. Can't wait to see a two front war emerge, presumably the White Walkers and their undead army will blow through the north, march south, Jon and company will retreat and reengage. What remains of Snow's army will hit their flank while the remnants of Dany's army and of southern Westoros will have to hold position and gradually push them out. Their combined effort should work like a vice. A weird twist would be that not all of the White's power is consolidated with the Night King. I think a cool turn would be in the decisive blow Bran could deliver against them after this discovery, by directing a warged Drogon to attack the Whites' stronghold and destroy their hive. Kill the source of the dark magic that powers the Whites and the undead and victory and a permanent end to the Whites is assured . BUT who knows all our cherished heroes could perish and Westoros, the rest of TGOT world, will be forever lost cuz GRRM just fucks with your shit like that. Oh well TGOT is the best ever.

  5. As we look at the progress almost all of westeross great family's have lost nearly all family members, what if it ended in democracy just because there is no king or queen or anyone who has any sort of claim or large enough army to take the throne.

  6. No way.
Democracy is a system for country with many middle class, where power isnñt very much concentrated. In Westeros, most people are por peasants, nobles cocentrate the power.

Not a democracy, but something that cpuld happen is a Carta Magna limitting he King power, and maybe an elective monarchy, like  was in germany, poland and hungary.

Well, and elective monarchy wouldn´t end the game of thrones.
If DAenerys wanna make the path of democracy, she should redistribute lands, and favor the researck of cities.

  7. Well if you look at the closest things to democracy that existed around this late medieval period, you have two forms. The first is the citizen republic model that only really applied to city states and couldn't be applied to a large sprawling empire like Westeros. Then there's the elected monarchy model of the Holy Roman Empire which seems more than possible, where the hereditary lords of the different regions gather together and elect a King amongst their own, which is a position for life. This will probably mean in the long term less power in the Iron Throne and more for the Paramount Lords who have driven so much of the story so far. But that's a far stretch from what we call democracy today.

  8. What about all the mankind in Westeros is gone (simply called die) but somehow human manage to eliminate the white walker, dragons get back to where they came from and Westeros therefore retraces to the children. Is it still a happy ending?

  9. I only clicked this video to write a comment, based on the thumpnail of the video:

Danearys has a donky and Jon has a elephant made in the American party fashion. Why haven't you made a dragon and a direwolf in red and blue and white stars?

  10. It sounds more like the wheel here is a metaphor for the game of thrones. If the Targaryens are a spoke on that wheel, they're not always on top. By breaking the wheel, Dany means for the spoke that is the Targaryen dynasty to rise again, eliminate or subjugate all other spokes, and be on top forever so no more innocent lives get rolled over by power struggles between houses.

  11. Westeros won't turn to democracy unless there's a massive political will for it. Even if there was a large peasant revolt it would take more than that to create a democracy. Look at France. The revolution led to anarchy, which paved way for the rise of Napoleon.

The closest I think it might get is if the small council is replaced by some kind of parliament or senate. Either way, I predict that Sansa is going to end up as queen.

  12. if westeros is based on english history, it wouln't be surprising to see a kind of magna carta, limiting the power of the monarch while giving power to local houses, and a eventual change into democracy

  13. In the real world , democracy happened because it existed a long time ago in Greece and in Roman republic , so western europe just picked up this political system after a long period of medieval age , they didnt created it , they just revived it . The differences in GOT and real life is that , in real life , Westeros or England were conquered and ruled by Roman for quite a long time , while Westeros in GOT had never been ruled by democracy or get in touch with such system .

One could say that the free city states are Greece , and Valyria were Roman Empire , yet those systems of democracy had absolutely never come to westeros .

  14. I have a suspicion that Martin will end the story proper with Jon and/or Daenerys on the throne, and the foundations of democracy either won't show up until the end or will be in some sort of epilogue. Martin could flash forward all he needed this way.

  15. Seriously! When will people stop confusing some highborn lords proclaiming a king with a real democracy?! For shit's sake! You're living in an advanced society with a complex free, equal, hidden voting system and see some people shouting "dakingindanorf". And then you think: Ah yea, that's pretty much the same.Small wonder that people like Trump, Wilders, Farage and Petry keep fucking the free world.

  16. I agree it could go to some form of democracy. I can't imagine Westeros bringing up our modern ideas of democracy, but maybe a proto democracy – more along the lines of what the Ironborn have in the show, and Saxon Kings had in real English history. Whereby any blood claimant can go to a meeting and make their case before the major lords and have a lifetime election. If Dany and Yara are shaping this it might even include female members of the family – it very occasionally did in real life too (see Æthelflæd, Lady of Mercia for a very interesting female ruler who fought the Vikings). Alternately it could be more like Magna Carta in real life history. By no means a true democracy, but the first step down that path where the nobles and King enter into agreements of basic limits on the King, and a true representation of rich landed men with votes in a House of Lords type situation. The King is still King, but for the first time there is a real balance on him, that he ignores at his risk. This leaves the door open to more developments down the line like extending the franchise and increasing the power of the Lords and then Commons, when Westeros is more at that point (for example if the maesters order of Sam the Wizard develop something like the printing press and increase schooling and thus reading throughout the commonfolk).

  17. I think the show will disappoint in ending it all, because of the limited time on the screen. George already split a book into two, and I think the show will have a very simple ending, compared to the books. George might even make another split in his last few books, so we might have to read 10 books or so. Also, he already wrote some books about the history of this particular world.

  18. glad to see you sat down and took democracy seriously as the end game in asoiaf. although the specifics of how they get there, we differ a bit on, the end game. of democracy for westeros is where they are all definitely headed. anyway, good on ya…btw, i guess you took down my original comment, haha, well glad you've come around. btw, they wont fall into democracy, they will progress towards it. just like feudalism progressed historically to eventually a constitutional republic type democracy such as the one we have…as for the supposed problem you bring up of democracy being a happy ending, on the contrary, the fantasy fans fully expect someone to "win" the game of thrones, where having democracy be the outcome with no o e actually winning will drive all those fans nuts and therein lies the bittersweet ending in that all the fans who invested all that time and energy get an ending that makes sense, falls in with historical precedent(grrm being a huge student of history) and works perfectly, however does not satisfy the desire of the fans to have their favorite character or other "win" the iron throne at the end….
