She is more often clad in battle armour for her roles in Game Of Thrones and the Star Wars franchise. But Gwendoline Christie proved her own glamorous sense of style on Wednesday, as she embarked on a busy day of promotion in New York. The actress, 39, showed off her famously leggy frame in an embroidered navy slip dress, layered beneath a chic camel coat, as she stepped out in The Big Apple. The Top Of The Lake star displayed her long legs in the stylish blue mesh dress, patterned with glittering red sequins and delicate white embroidery. She kept the look casually chic by layering a simple white T-shirt underneath, but tied her look together with nude satin heeled sandals in an elegant finishing touch.Leaving her bob in its usually sleek style and adding a soft smoky eye and bright red lip, Gwendoline was effortlessly glamorous as she embarked on her busy day in the city. She was first seen heading to appearances at Good Morning America and The View, with a smart black coat on top to keep warm in the chilly winter climes.Relaxing in SoHo later on however, Gwendoline swapped her black jacket for a sleek camel number, and her sandals for classic pointed court shoes – proving her naturally fashionable flair twice in one day.Gwendoline is currently promoting her new film Star Wars: The Last Jedi, which is set for release just before Christmas. The blonde portrays chrome-plated stormtrooper villain Captain Phasma, which she first played in The Force Awakens back in 2015 – however the new flick marks her first film starring role.Speaking to Vogue last month, the actress admitted her relief with her androgynous casting when it comes to her sci-fi roles – meaning she did not have to wear ‘scantily-clad costumes’.She explained: ‘When I was taken to the top-secret wardrobe department to see my Captain Phasma costume – a shiny, full-body suit of armour – I was truly electrified.’Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm, had asked me if I’d ever Googled “female superheroes” and proceeded to show me the results: a plethora of scantily clad, cartoon-like women, and not a whole lot else.’The concept of a female character in a huge film like Star Wars, whose flesh we are denied from the outset, felt fresh and exciting. A suit of genderless armour for a female character shouldn’t have felt new, but it did.’While she is starring in one of the biggest films of the year, Gwendoline is best known for role as Brienne of Tarth in hit HBO series Game Of Thrones. She revealed earlier this year that her character, who has become a feminist icon worldwide, required a lot of mental and physical preparation’I lost a lot of weight,’ she recalled to the Radio Times. ‘I got a trainer, I did kickboxing, Kundalini yoga, running.’I used to have long hair and wear make-up and feminine clothes, so I started wearing unisex sportswear, working on changing the way that I walked and moved.’
