Just earlier today, we reported on several Game of Thrones cast members converging on Seville, where the production is currently filming scenes at the nearby ruins of Italica, best known to fans as the Dragonpit. Now, several more have been spotted, including at least one we never expected to see on a Game of Thrones set again. Read on for SPOILERS.
Okay, let’s start with the surprising stuff before moving into the really surprising stuff. Twitter’s own has snapped several photos from the ground on Seville, showing off important cast and crew members gathered around. First, we have Nikolaj Coster-Waldau getting mobbed by fans in a moving vehicle…
…and then a couple of a bigger group. Let’s see who we can spot:
Most obviously, showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss are on the left. In the huddle in the middle, we can clearly identify Maisie Williams (Arya Stark) and Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark), both of whom were already known to be in the area. And then Williams posted a picture of Turner on his Instagram stories and confirmed that they’re in the same location:
Now, look closely at the two guys facing each other behind Williams. This is a little harder to discern, but we think the guy with his head turned away from the camera is Isaac Hempstead Wright (Bran Stark); he’s about that height (really, if Wright weren’t constantly sitting down on screen Bran would tower over a bunch of the other cast members), and Wright has already been reported to be in Seville by several sources. We think the guy talking to him is Joe Dempsie (Gendry), who’s been known to be in Spain as of late. Clock the hairline.
Here’s another picture from Weaver:
Obviously that’s John Bradley (Sam Tarly) right of center. We’re not sure on this one, but we think the woman next to him is Hannah Murray (Gilly).
And on top of all that, we know that Peter Dinklage (Tyrion Lannister) is in the area thanks to a separate Instagram post:
So, to recap, here’s a list of characters who are staying in Seville, which probably means they will film scenes at the nearby Dragonpit: Arya Stark, Sansa Stark, Bran Stark, Gendry, Tyrion Lannister, John Bradley and (probably) Gilly.
There are also a few actors who’ve been reported to be in or on their way to Seville but who haven’t been photographed yet, including Gwendoline Christie (Brienne of Tarth), Iain Glen (Jorah Mormont), Conleth Hill (Varys), Liam Cunningham (Davos Seaworth) and Kit Harington (Jon Snow). We can’t confirm them, though.
So that’s quite a meeting of the minds at the Dragonpit. What will these characters talk about? We’re not sure. We do know, however, that Benioff and Weiss are directing the last episode of season 8. True, these two are often on set for episodes they don’t direct, but this many characters coming together gives us a series finale vibe.
Okay, now here’s the REALLY surprising thing. In addition to all these current cast members, Tom Wlaschiha (Jaqen H’ghar) also made an appearance.
Just what the hell is Jaqen H’ghar doing near an important shoot on Game of Thrones season 8?
Just what the hell is Jaqen H’ghar doing near an important shoot on Game of Thrones season 8?
It’s possible that H’ghar is an important part of the fabric of the final season…but we suspect this is an example of the producers having some fun. Let’s not forget that they brought Sibel Kekelli (Shae) onto the set during filming for season 6 purposefully to throw people off — they even put her into costume. And then there’s been talk about the production shooting multiple endings for the show. The point is that the producers are known to pull stunts like this to confuse spoiler-hungry fans, and we suspect that’s what they’re doing here.
But what do you think? This is a lot to chew on.
