The Game Of Thrones prequel is going to delve into an older world of Westeros that predates the Iron Throne.

George RR Martin, the man behind the A Song Of Ice And Fire book series, teased some more details about the prequel TV show, which is definitely not called The Long Night.

Forget what you think you know about Westeros, as the prequel will have no Iron Throne and no King’s Landing.

It was recently revealed that the prequel will follow the story of Azor Ahai, a legendary hero who wielded a burning sword called the Lightbarer, chosen to fight against the darkness which loomed over the world.

Casting details are starting to emerge, with Naomi Watts and Poldark star Josh Whitehouse set to star.

Actors Sheila Atim and Denise Gough have apparently also been approached for ‘key’ roles.

But whatever parts they’re playing, their characters will inhabit a world not touched on in great detail in the books.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, author George RR Martin said the prequel is set around 5000 years before the events in Game Of Thrones.

He revealed: ‘Westeros is a very different place. There’s no King’s Landing. There’s no Iron Throne. There are no Targaryens – Valyris has hardly begun to rise yet with its dragons and the great that it built.

‘We’re dealing with a different and older world and hopefully that will be part of the fun of the series.

Speaking about the series showrunner Jane Goldman, Martin added: ‘She’s going into territory that I haven’t explored very much in the books. I’ve hinted about them. But she’s a major writer, I love her work.’

Meanwhile star Naomi has a lot of swotting up to do, as she has admitted she didn’t manage to catch Game Of Thrones from the beginning when it started.

The actor said: ‘I am late coming to it, I have to say, but that’s how I am with lots of things in life.

‘I am binging it right not and studying. It’s very exciting.’
