The stars of Game Of Thrones had to go through grueling battle scenes in the final season which left them on the brink of tears.
Maisie Williams, who plays Arya Stark, gets thrown into the middle of an epic battle scene for the first time on the show and admitted that left her physically and mentally ‘broken’.
‘Nothing can prepare you for how physically draining it is,’ she said.
‘It’s night after night, and again and again, and it just doesn’t stop.
‘You can’t get sick, and you have to look out for yourself because there’s so much to do that nobody else can do… there are moments you’re just broken as a human and just want to cry.’
Her co-star Iain Glen, who plays Jorah, agreed calling the shoot ‘really miserable’.
‘You get to sleep at seven in the morning and when you wake in the midday you’re still so spent you can’t really do anything, and then you’re back,’ he told Entertainment Weekly.
‘You have no life outside it. You have an absolute fucked bunch of actors.
‘But without getting too method [acting] about it, on screen it bleeds through to the reality of the Thrones world.’
Their comments come as the actors posed up for fierce new photos as their characters ahead of season eight kicking off.
Each cover is emblazoned with the tag line Game Over, to really hammer home that the show is ending next month.
Maisie’s character Arya joins the likes of Cersei, Daenerys, Jon, Jaime, Tyrion, Missandei and Bran for the glam spread, showcasing some new outfits for the surviving characters.
Despite the physical exhaustion, leaving the show behind for good was still a wrench.
Lena Headey, who plays Cersei, admitted that she ‘broke down in tears’ after leaving set for the last time.
She told Huffington Post: ‘I didn’t think I was going to be emotional. It was [sad] yeah. I thought I wasn’t going to let myself get to that point because I had the last day to get through.
‘And then when I left and I got in the car, I broke down in tears and I was…yeah, devastated.’
Season eight will run for six movie-length episodes as the saga reaches its climax.
Game Of Thrones returns April 15 on Sky Atlantic and NOW TV
