The Night King (played by Vladimir Furdik) has been a hot topic of conversation among Game of Thrones fans, with some even suggesting the villain could take the Iron Throne.
But while some ponder on the fate of the White Walker leader, others have speculated Bran Stark is, in fact, the captain of the army of the dead.
Bran (played by Isaac Hempstead-Wright) has the ability to see into the past and “warg” into other beings.
His unusual gifts make the possibly all the more convincing, as the Night King also shares this type of trait.
Although Issac has admitted it is an “interesting” theory, he also insisted the revelation would be too “obvious”.
Of the suggestion, he said: “Whenever I post anything on Instagram I just have a barrage of comments going, ‘Night King! Hello Night King! You are Night King! Hello the Night King!’
“I mean I suppose Bran is quite an interesting character to theorise over because of his whole link to time travel and whatnot.”
He went on to tell Radio Times his character’s aptitude for time travelling lends itself to almost any theory.
“You can kind of get away with anything theory-wise and make it sound convincing if you’ve got time travel involved,” the TV star explained.
“I mean it’s quite an interesting theory, the Night King one. I just think it seems a bit obvious. A bit cheesy.”
Bran was the only living member of the Stark family not to feature in the trailer for the upcoming eighth and final season of the HBO series.
Reacting to his on-screen persona’s absence in the teaser clip, he quipped: “Yeah, I don’t know what the f**k that’s about!”
Admitting to wondering why his character had not featured in the video, the 19-year-old actor continued: “I actually don’t know why I’m not in that.
“We were looking at it and I was like, ‘Why am I not in this? All the other Starks are in it.’ So I dunno – ask my agent. Get a look in there.”
His comments come after his co-star Carice Van Houten teased the end of the series, seemingly ruling out a potential heir to the Iron Throne.
Hinting fan-favourite Samwell Tarly is unlikely to sit on the ceremonial chair, she revealed: “Unfortunately, that’s not the reality.”
In an interview with What’s On, the Dutch actress said if she could choose who would take the Iron Throne the loveable character would get her vote.
When asked who she would pick to sit on the coveted chair, she offered: “Samwell Tarly but zero chance there.”
Yet she had no quarrels with the conclusion of the show, subtly suggesting fans would be pleased with the outcome.
“It is what it is, and so that’s what it should be. There’s nothing to say about whether I’d change it if I were in charge,” she shared.
Game of Thrones season 8 returns April 14 on HBO in the US, and the next day on Sky Atlantic in the UK.
