HBO recently took Game of Thrones fans behind the amazing prosthetics work on the show with a quick documentary video. Now, it’s giving the same treatment to the show’s stunts, which were impressive even before the team set a record for setting people on fire on a film set. Watch below as stunt coordinator Rowley Irlam and his crew lay it out for you:

God, all those layers the stunt performers have to wear…I don’t care if they’re beyond the Wall; that has to get hot. Although I enjoyed the sight of a mass of Lannister soldiers flailing around pretending to be on fire before the special effects were added in. It looks like they’re swatting a cloud of invisible mosquitos.

I also liked what Irlam had to say about setting that fire record. “It had a purpose, not just a record.” Preach. I’ve always respected the special effects professionals on Game of Thrones for doing what the story demanded, rather than coming up with a cool effect and shaping the story to fit. With the biggest battle sequence in the show’s history coming up in season 8, I can’t wait to see what this lot has in store for their finale. Bring it home, Rowley!

Also, what other mini-documentaries can we expect from HBO before the end, do you think? Costumes? Makeup? Doubles? Lots to dig into.
