*WARNING: This article contains spoilers for Game of Thrones season eight episode one*
Fans are still questioning how Bran Stark’s (Isaac Hempstead-Wright) involvement in Game of Throne will develop as seaosn eight progresses, with many people still believing that he could be the Night King.
He appeared at various points during the first episode of the new season, but he was creepy and ominous throughout.
Bran spent a lot of his time warning his family, as well as Daenerys about the impending threat of the White Walkers and their army of the dead.
The episode then concluded with him coming face-to-face with Jaime Lannister, the man he pushed him to the ground in the first episode of the series, leading to him being unable to walk.
Is Bran Stark the Night King?
The theory that Bran Stark is actually the Night King is one that has been going back and forth during the build-up to season eight.
Some fans believe that Bran will go back in time and warg into the man who was eventually turned into the Night King by the Children of the Forrest, and then he would face an internal struggle as he tries to prevent the future events from happening and save Westeros.
Isaac Hempstead-Wright spoke out about the theory in an interview with Vulture in 2017, before he had seen the scripts.
When asked about the resemblances between Bran and the Night King, the actor said: ‘Maybe. I think it’s less that they’re the same person and more that they are two of the ancient beings of Westeros.’
Last month during the build-up to season eight he was asked again about it and described it as ‘a bit cheesy’.
Can Bran Stark see into the future?
One of Bran’s abilities is that he has The Sight, which enables him look into the past and present.
He used this power in season seven to find out who Jon Snow’s real parents were, when he followed a young Ned Stark in the Tower of Joy.
Viewers have seen that he can definitely see the past, as well as the present thanks to his connection to the wierwood trees.
It has also been suggested in the show that he can also see some future events, although its not been made clear how restricted these visions are.
He has predicted that certain things will happen, although in many cases it could be because he spotted it while warging or by seeing a present event that will dictate the future.
In season seven he tells Sam: ‘I can see things that happened in the past. I can see things happening now all over the world’, without mentioning anything about seeing the future.
We know that Jojen Reed, who travelled with Bran beyond the wall, was able to see future events but it’s not clear if Bran has the same ability.
In the first episode of season 8 Bran states to Samwell that he is waiting for a friend, and later in the episode Jaime arrives, the person we assume he was waiting for.
This shows that he was at least somewhat aware that this would be happening, but it’s not made clear if this was because of an ability to see the future.
