Game Of Thrones might have come to an end last month, but the mystery surrounding the stray coffee cup is still yet to be solved.
The final season of the show proved controversial for many reasons, but a coffee cup (which wasn’t from Starbucks) spotted in the back of a shot prompted arguably the biggest furore around the HBO fantasy drama.
The director of episode The Last Of The Starks, however, has since shunted any blame towards his corner regarding the incident, explaining how they had changed an angle in the editing process.
Speaking on The Hollywood Reporter’s TV Director roundtable, director David Nutter said: ‘The first thing I said was they had changed an angle of the take.
‘So I wasn’t there when they changed it, so I didn’t blame myself, which was good.
‘And then I looked to see if it was maybe mine – it wasn’t. But I think the show is so damn perfect in many respects that people love to find the blemishes.
‘It’s just a little non sequitur that doesn’t really amount to anything at all.’
So is editing to blame for this mishap? Will we ever learn the true cause? The plot doth thicken.
Sophie Turner, who plays Sansa Stark, recently blamed the whole thing entirely on Jon Snow’s Kit Harington, branding the actor ‘lazy’.
Game Of Thrones might have ended, but attention has now turned to the impending spin-offs in the pipeline.
The first spin-off, provisionally titled Bloodmoon, boasts an all-star cast including Naomi Watts, Miranda Richardson, John Simm, and more.
Game Of Thrones Bloodmoon is scheduled to be released in 2020.
