Game Of Thrones’ season 8 finale has been watched by millions across the world as we said goodbye to Westeros forever…but leading man Kit Harington isn’t one of them.
The actor, who played Jon Snow on the HBO/Sky fantasy epic, revealed backstage at the Emmys 2019 that he still can’t bring himself to watch the final season.
Picking up the award for Outstanding Drama Series at the awards ceremony last night, Kit was quizzed about the controversial ending to the show, which divided fans so much that $1million (£800,000) was raised in a bid to change the entire final season.
But Kit revealed that it didn’t bother him because he didn’t know what he was defending.
He told the crowd: ‘I still haven’t seen the show. So that’s how I dealt with that controversy.’
Confirming that he hadn’t seen any of the final season at all, Kit then added: ‘I know what it took to shoot it. It was hard and everyone put all of their love and effort into it.’
‘For us, we knew what we were doing was right, story wise,’ the star continued. ‘We knew it was right for the characters because we lived with them for 10 years.’
Game Of Thrones took home two Emmys at last night’s ceremony, taking their total Emmy win for this year up to 12 overall.
Peter Dinklage, who played Tyrion on the show, set a new record with his win in Best Supporting Actor in a Drama – as it was his fourth overall and second consecutively.
Kit was lined up in the Best Actor in a Drama, but lost out to Billy Porter, who made history as the first openly gay black man to take home the gong ever thanks to his role in Pose.
At the event Kit was seen beaming as he reunited with Sophie Turner, who played on-screen sister Sansa Stark, inside the Microsoft Theatre in LA.
She was also nominated for her supporting role, as well as Maisie Williams.
The LA ceremony was dominated by British acts and performers with Fleabag and Phoebe Waller-Bridge leading the pack.
Combined with the Creative Emmys, which took place last week, Game Of Thrones took home 12 awards, and Chernobyl 10.
Game Of Thrones is available on Sky Atlantic and NOW TV.
