With the eighth season of Game of Thrones coming out on Blu-ray on December 3, discussions about the charactersâ final scenes are cropping up once more, this time as a result of the bonus content featured on the home video release. Weâre talking commentary from the cast and crew, behind-the-scenes features, History and Lore videos, and deleted scenes.
One such feature looks at Sansa Starkâs coronation as Queen in the North, a major moment if there ever was one. Star Sophie Turner talks about what she thought of her characterâs ending, describing the numb shock she felt reading her last scene. âI think it was just so overwhelming, and I kind of kept reading and re-reading, and I felt a bit numb afterwards because I never thought I would be reading the final scene.â
If getting to Sansaâs final moments wasnât surreal enough, Sophie certainly didnât expect for things to actually end well for the elder Stark sister. Most of the actors going into Game of Thrones expect a shocking or gruesome death for their characters. Particularly seeing as this was the last season, all bets seemed off. But Sansa made it through. âItâs very gratifying,â Turner said. âItâs great that she ends up being Queen in the North, and I think itâs the place where she really feels like she belongs. And I think itâs a really just, happy, good ending for her, which I was never expecting.â
Given the early fates of the Stark family members and the trauma Sansa was forced to contend with in previous seasons, it does feel like justice when she finally sits on that throne. It may not make up for all sheâs lost, but itâs nice to finally see her among her own people â and leading them all, no less.
