Game of Thrones ended this year with season 8, concluding what will be the main narrative points of George RR Martin’s unwritten A Dream of Spring – the last book in A Song of Ice and Fire. However, the final episodes divided fans with many thinking the ending was rushed. Now Jaime Lannister star Nikolaj Coster-Waldau has said that fans were “p***ed off” Game of Thrones finished.
Speaking with NME at the Global Citizen Awards, he said: “I’ve travelled around the world and what has really been wonderful is how these communities have grown out of a love of this one show.
“And I also think that’s one of the reasons a lot of people are p***ed off.
“They didn’t want it to end, just period. Did not want it to end.
“Because does that mean I’m gonna lose my friends that I’ve been hanging out with?”

‘Game of Thrones fans P***ED OFF show ended’ George RR Martin books wouldn’t be overtaken?
Jaime Lannister star Nikolaj Coster-Waldau said fans were “p***ed off” Game of Thrones ended
Nikolaj added: “People have online communities around the world, and it’s been about this show and our love.
“Also I’ve met people that say ‘no no we’re going to carry on, we’re gonna keep going’”.
It wasn’t just fans who were annoyed the show ended, with George RR Martin himself expressing he wished Game of Thrones had been around 13 seasons long.
Speaking with Fast Company earlier this year, the 71-year-old said: “It can be… traumatic.”
George RR Martin books and writing schedule
Martin continued: “Because sometimes their creative vision and your creative vision don’t match, and you get the famous creative differences thing – that leads to a lot of conflict.
“You get totally extraneous things like the studio or the network weighing in, and they have some particular thing that has nothing to do with story, but relates to ‘Well this character has a very high Q Rating so let’s give him a lot more stuff to do’.”
“The [final] series has been… not completely faithful.
“Otherwise, it would have to run another five seasons.”

George RR Martin on writing schedule ‘Some fans think I’m RETIRED’ [INTERVIEW]
By the sounds of it, Martin’s plans for A Dream of Spring will be much more detailed than the arguably rushed season 8 of Game of Thrones.
But in a hypothetical situation where the show had run for 13 seasons, perhaps this means the author’s narrative wouldn’t have been overtaken by the show?
For season 6 onwards Game of Thrones entered uncharted territory, with Martin’s main plot points for The Winds of Winter – the penultimate book in A Song of Ice and Fire, which will hopefully release in 2020 – being shared with showrunners.
The author has previously shared that he tried to rush out Winds a few years ago to keep up with the show, but didn’t meet that deadline.
Nevertheless, maybe it would have been a better situation had Game of Thrones been 13 seasons long.
Martin, if disciplined in his writing, could have kept ahead of the show’s narrative, plus fans would be happy as the story they’d fallen in love with would be almost double the length.
Additionally, all the controversies of the final season being rushed may not have occurred since the showrunners would still have source material to work from if Martin’s books had remained ahead – not to mention some more details for the later episodes.
But, of course, this was always unlikely in the world of Hollywood, with actors like Emilia Clarke and Kit Harington having shot to fame with Game of Thrones being in greater demand now, so it wasn’t like they’d want to be committed for five more seasons of the same TV show when they could be pushing their career in movies.
