Game of Thrones has dominated ratings and award shows since it started back in 2011. Despite drawing a divide among the fans with its final season, Game of Thrones had managed a firm swan-song by receiving a record thirty-two nominations at the 71st Primetime Emmy Awards; grabbing an Emmy each for Outstanding Drama Series and Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series through its eighth outing. The show came abuzz yet again when Directors Guild of America (DGA) Award nominations were announced.

Game of Thrones received two nominations at the 72nd DGA Awards

On Friday, DGA announced its TV nominations for Dramatic Series, Comedy Series, and Variety/Talk/News/Sports- Specials. Two of the most popular directors of the HBO hit series have earned nominations for their episodes from the last season of Game of Thrones; Miguel Sapochnik got nominated for “The Long Night” while David Nutter for “The Last of the Starks.”  The two directors have shared five of the last six episodes among them, with Sapochnik directing two and Nutter helming three. However the show-runners, David Benioff and D.B. Weiss led the finale episode (The Iron Throne), putting our long burnished surface of ice and fire at rest.

HBO ruled over the other nominations as well, with nominations for shows like Watchmen, Barry, Veep, followed by Amazon Prime Video.

The Guild was earlier set to announce all of its TV nominations together but revealed only its TV Movie/Limited Series; Documentary; Variety/Talk/News/Sports- Regularly Scheduled Programming; Reality Programs; Children’s Programs; and Commercials nominees on Monday. It was due to “a re-vote related to a newly implemented electronic entry submissions process,” DGA explained.

The 72nd Annual DGA Awards will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2020 in Los Angeles. It would be thrilling to see Game of Thrones pull off a chilling high! We’re keeping our fingers crossed. Tell us your expectations in the comments section below.
