British actress Emilia Clarke has spoken out about the controversial ending of Game of Thrones.

The 33-year-old star portrayed iconic character Queen Daenerys Targaryen on the hit HBO fantasy series.

Speaking to The Times , Emilia confessed that she “really felt” for Daenerys due to her tragic fate: being fatally stabbed by nephew-lover Jon Snow ( Kit Harington ) following Daenery’s turn into a maniacal dictator.

The actress said: “And yeah, was I annoyed that Jon Snow didn’t have to deal with something? He got away with murder — literally.”

She also compared the extremely bizarre experience of the show ending to “like coming out of a bunker”.

Lovers Jon and Daenerys did not get a happy ending

Emilia also gave fans an insight into how she felt herself when she read the ending.

She described: “I knew how I felt when I first read it, and I tried, at every turn, not to consider too much what other people might say, but I did always consider what the fans might think — because we did it for them, and they were the ones who made us successful, so… it’s just polite, isn’t it?”

Many fans complained that the eighth and final season of the show based on George R. R. Martin’s still-unfinished fantasy novels, A Song of Ice and Fire, was too short and tried to do too much at once.

Daenerys took a dark turn in the final episodes of Game of Thrones

Emilia admitted: “We could have spun it out for a little longer.”

Those who are desiring a bit more dragon-action can rest easy, however, as a spin-off series focused on the Targaryen Dynasty generations before the events of the original show is on its way from HBO Max.
